Liverpool, UK, aerial photograph. The city of Liverpool occupies the north bank of the Mersey Estuary. Black and white regions are areas of water where no photographs were taken. On the south side of the estuary are the towns of Wallasey (northwest) and Birkenhead (southeast). The stadia of Liverpool's two famous football clubs are seen as white rectangles just above centre, with Everton's Goodison Park slightly to the north of Liverpool's Anfield. Liverpool will be European City of Culture in 2008.
