Earth's ecozones. Artwork showing the main ecozones of Earth. An ecozone is a region containing animal life that evolved together, separated from the other ecozones, for most of their history. The ecozones are: Palaearctic (green, covering much of Eurasia), Nearctic (blue, North America), Neotropic (brown, South and Central America), Afrotropic (yellow, sub-Saharan Africa), Indomalaya (pink, covering South-East Asia and some equatorial Pacific islands), Australasia (red, covering Australasia and the subtropical Pacific islands). Some authorities consider the Pacific islands a separate region, called Oceania. The Antarctic ecozone (white) completes the set of ecozones.
