The northern one, Nevado de Colima (4330 metres), is older and inactive. The southern peak, Volcan de Colima (3860 metres) is younger and active. It is the most active volcano in Mexico. The surrounding landscape includes fields (red rectangles), a lake (upper right), and several towns (blue, upper right). A barren area (blue) is at left. The area shown in this image is around 60 kilometres wide. The image data includes infrared wavelengths, and was obtained on 6 February 2003, using the ASTER sensor on the Terra satellite.
