Water monitor lizard (Varanus salvator) swimming. This lizard is the second largest lizard in the world, measuring up to around 274 centimetres in length. It is capable of swimming far out to sea to hunt fish and is very inquisitive when underwater. It also feeds on small mammals, birds, insects and the carcasses of dead animals.
