Hood mockingbird (Nesomimus macdonaldi) feeding on a sea urchin. This bird is endemic to the island of Espanola in the Galapagos. It is an omnivore and opportunist, feeding on a varied diet that includes fruits, eggs, insects, carrion, small vertebrates and marine arthropods. It also drinks blood from the wounds of larger animals and placentas. The hood mockingbird is the largest of the Galapagos mockingbirds, reaching up to 28 centimetres in length and weighing up to 75 grams. Photographed in the Galapagos Islands.
