White-Water rafting can be arranged on the Victoria Nile at the Bujugali Falls, about 7 miles north of Jinja where the Nile begins its 4,000-mile journey from Lake Victoria to the Mediterranean Sea. The river is supposedly Class 5, making the sport there more challenging than the Zambezi at Victoria Falls. Bujugali Falls is in reality a series of rapids. It remains the only falls on this stretch of the river after the construction of the Owen Falls Dam (built in the 1950's to generate hydro-electric power for Uganda and Kenya) submerged the Ripon Falls at Jinja.
