Stellar jets HH 46/47, infrared image. These jets from a newly formed star (centre) are an example of a Herbig-Haro object. The jets are creating large bubbles in the surrounding gas and dust. The green areas are warm hydrogen gas. The blue areas are where starlight is being scattered from dust. The red spots (around 1.85 light years apart) are where the jets are impacting the surrounding gas and dust. HH 46/47 is located in the constellation of Vela and is around 1140 light years from Earth. This image, published in 2007, was obtained using the Infrared Array Camera (IRAC) of the Spitzer Space Telescope (SST).
