Paul Bartsch (1871-1960), US zoologist. Bartsch was born in Germany and emigrated to the USA as a child in 1880. He studied at the University of Iowa, and then worked at George Washington University, and as a curator at the Smithsonian Institution. He specialised in the study of molluscs and crustaceans. A species of squid was named after him, and he co-authored Fishes and shells of the Pacific world (1945). This photograph dates from between 1905 and 1945.
