Female cayenne tick (Amblyomma cajennense). This tick is found in the southern United States, Central America, and parts of South America. It is the vector for the bacteria Rickettsia rickettsii, which causes the often fatal Rocky Mountain spotted fever (RMSF). Both male and female ticks transmit the disease.
