This electricity generating plant, located on Tarbert Island on the Shannon Estuary in Co. Kerry, West of Ireland, has 4 turbines fired by heavy fuel oil (HFO) giving a rated output of 590MW. The turbines are intended to be de-commissioned by the new owners, the Spanish power company Endesa, and replaced first with the more efficient Open Cycle Gas Turbine (OCGT) facility, fired by natural gas, then converting to a Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) to be commissioned in 2016 depending on market and electrical distribution factors
