Partial solar eclipse and ISS. The International Space Station (ISS) is the object at upper left on the disc of the Sun. The disc of the Moon is partially seen at lower left. A sunspot is at lower right. This image was taken at 13:09 local time on 4 January 2011, from the Sultanate of Oman. The ISS orbits the Earth every 90 minutes at an altitude of around 400 kilometres, travelling at 7.8 kilometres per second. Here, the ISS took less than a second to (transit) cross the disc of the Sun. The distances of the Moon and Sun from the Earth are 400,000 kilometres and 150 million kilometres respectively.
