Artist's impression of the Advanced Communications Technology Satellite (ACTS). ACTS is a NASA project to study ways of improving communications in the already-crowded Ka-band of wavelengths. The launch of ACTS has been considerably delayed by legal and technical difficulties, but is currently manifested for launch on Shuttle Mission STS-51 in August 1992. ACTS is the first NASA communications research project since 1973.
