YANOMAMI AMERINDIANS, VENEZUELAN AMAZONAS. Serra Parima, Niyayobaten village Yanomami indians at Caicet field hospital where they are regularly examined for signs of malaria and onchocerciasis which the Yanomami have no resistance to. Malaria was probably brought to the region by illegal gold miners. Thousands of Yanomami have died of malaria which is threatening the tribe with extinction. Electricity inside the hospital is generated using solar panels.
