The Great Galaxy in Andromeda, or M 31 (Messier 31), the nearest large spiral galaxy to our own Milky Way. Two companion galaxies, M 32 (lower center) and M 110 (upper right corner), accompany Andromeda; both are dwarf ellipticals.
