Baobab trees (Adansonia grandidieri). These trees are endemic to western Madagascar. They can grow to heights of 25 metres. Their large swollen trunks are adapted to storing water and they only produce leaves during the wet season. Their fibrous bark, which can be up to 15 centimetres thick, is used to make rope. Scars from removal of the bark can be seen at the bases of the trees. Photographed in Madagascar.
