Poppies. Oriental poppy flowers, Papaver orientale. This species has been widely cultivated as an ornamental flower. There are numerous varie- ties of this poppy, some of which have different shades of red, white, pink or orange petals. Poppies produce bright flowers in order to attract pollinating insects such as bees. P. orientale originated from Armenia and flowers during late May or early June in the northern hemisphere.
