Ritter's disease. View of child's leg affected by Ritter's disease (Scalded skin syndrome, medical name: toxic epidermal necrolysis). All three stages of the disease are seen here: reddening of the skin (erythmia, at centre), blistering (upper left) and flaking of skin (lower right). Ritter's disease is caused by Staphylococcus bacteria. This is a minor staphylococcal infection producing an epidermolytic toxin. Most affected children eventually recover, although antibiotic drugs can be prescribed.
