Walking robot M2. This robot is being developed to walk like a human, using free-swinging movements rather than stiff robotic" patterns. It follows simple instructions produced by computer simulations, making spontaneous changes according to local conditions. M2 possesses humanoid joints, "muscles" and "tendons". Sensors measure the angle of its joints and the forces on its muscles and feet as it steps. It is hoped that robots like M2 will be used as reconnaissance workers in dangerous conditions. M2 was designed by roboticists at the MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) Leg Laboratory, USA, and funded by DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency)."
