Satellite telecommunications. View of large dish antennae at a communications ground station. The largest dishes, each about 18 metres in diameter, are used to communicate with Intelsat satellites in geostationary orbit. A dish of this size (known as Intelsat A), can make full use of the services provided by the Intelsat network, including TV, voice and data transmission. The smaller dishes are used to communicate with and control the AsiaSat-1 satellite, providing communications across China, South-East Asia and Pakistan. Photographed at Stanley, Hong Kong.
