Papyrus paper production. Image 2 of 5. Strips of pith from the papyrus (Cyperus papyrus) being laid out on a cotton sheet. The strips have been pounded and soaked to make them more pliable, and then cut to the desired length. They are now being laid on a cotton sheet. Two layers will be placed on the sheet, perpendicular to one another, and then another cotton sheet placed on top. The sheet will then be pressed to remove the excess liquid. A number of sheets are pressed together to form one sheet of papyrus paper. Photographed in Egypt. For a sequence showing production of papyrus paper see T926/107 to T926/111.
