Wild Duck star cluster. Optical image of the Wild Duck star cluster (M11, NGC 6705). This is an open (galactic) cluster containing around 3000 stars. An open cluster is an aggregation of stars that formed at around the same time from the same cloud of gas. The Wild Duck cluster is thought to be around 250 million years old. It lies 6000 light years from Earth in the constellation Scutum.
