Upsilon Andromedae planetary system. Artwork of the extrasolar planetary system around the star Upsilon Andromedae. This Sun-like star is 54 light years from Earth in the constellation Andromeda. The first planet, Upsilon Andromedae b (partially eclipsing star), was found in June 1996. Its presence was inferred by observing the star's wobble" as it moved through space, caused by the gravitational pull of the planet. U. Andromedae b has a mass 230 times that of Earth, and orbits its Sun in 4.6 days at a distance of about 8 million kilometres. U. Andromedae c (right of star) and d (foreground) were both discovered in April 1999, and orbit in 242 and 1270 days respectively."
