The inferior planets are those whose orbits lie inside that of the Earth. These are Mercury and Venus. According to their positions around the Sun, they are more or less observable from Earth. If the planet is in conjunction (top left, or bottom right) with the Sun (centre), it is not observable from Earth as it is in front or behind the Sun.
