This decorative still-life consists of birds, bowls, vases, amphorae, flowers, leaves and vines.It dates from the 4th c (though much restored in the 19th c), and depicts the bounty of nature and Roman agriculture. The mosaics in the Mausoleum display a mix of Christian and pagan symbolism and imagery, illustrating the transition of Rome from a pagan to a Christian city during the rule of the Emperor Constantine.
