3D modelling of material properties. Researchers using CEA's (Commissariat a l'energie atomique et aux energies alternatives) Tera-10 supercomputer to model the effect of strong pressure on the optical qualities of a sample of silica (silicon dioxide). Tera 10 is able to simulate complex phenomena in three dimensions. Here, it is being used to show that silica becomes increasingly reflective the more pressure that is applied.
