London tradesmen. 17th-century artwork of twelve London trades depicted in a religious pamphlet identifying those thought to be spreading heretical ideas. This was an attempt by the Anglican Church to denounce the Congregationalists, a group of nonconformist dissenting Protestant denominations that arose in the 16th and 17th centuries. The trades illustrated are: confectioner, smith, shoemaker, tailor, saddler, porter, boxmaker, soap boiler, glover, meal-man (a dealer in flour), chicken-man, and button-maker. Published in London in 1647.
