Pine tree pest control. Pheromone patch hung on a pine (Pinus sp.) tree in a forest in order to repel pine beetles (Dendroctonus ponderosae), which are killing millions of acres of pine trees in the American west. This patch contains pheromones that imitate the scent given off by a tree full of beetles in the hope that the real beetles will go elsewhere. Photographed in Red Cliff, Colorado, USA.
