Newton's disc experiment. Newton's disc is a circular disc with segments painted in different colours. If the colours are chosen correctly, when spun at high speed the disc appears a neutral colour - almost white. This is a result of the persistence of vision, allowing the colours to 'mix' in our brains. This experiment was created to demonstrate that what we see as white light is in fact composed of many colours.
