Poulet a rotir - a stall in Rue Montorgueil selling cheap ready-plucked chickens past their best but still fresh enough to eat if consumed on the day of purchase. The signs announce the price of 3 Francs (3 F 00) for a roasting chicken. Rue Montorgueil was a famous street in Paris for the cheapest food of all, selling off end of the line food at amazingly cheap prices. On the left is the corner of Rue Mauconseil and at the bottom, in the distance beyond the dense crowds of people, is a Baltard pavilion near the church of Saint-Eustache. 1er arrondissement, Right Bank, Paris, France, circa 1966.
