Les Halles at night in the bar of the world famous Au Pied de Cochon. Revellers would seek entertainment in Les Halles. Separated by a screen from the expensive tourist restaurant, they mingled with the workers and bloodstained butchers of Les Halles, having a drink standing at the bar absorbing the atmosphere. Au Pied de Cochon was divided into two parts, one for tourists which was much more expensive and one for the workers of Les Halles who paid a greatly reduced price. But staff at the bar would not turn away people having a night out if they came into the bar rather than going in the restaurant. Part of the celebration for revellers was enjoying the chaotic scene of Les Halles at night, and cafes would be open twenty-four hours a day for the night as well as day trade. People would come out of the myriad entertainments that Paris had to offer, the theatre, shows, cinema, ballet when they would go off to Les Halles to eat and drink at the end of a night out. Rue Coquilliere, Quartier des Halles, 1er arrondissement, Right Bank, Paris, France, circa 1960s.
