The theatre is the pavement. Curb side acrobats, providing an extra entertainment for the crowd of people waiting to enter the Lyceum Theatre, London, to see the pantomime 'Beauty and the Beast' on Boxing Day, the public holiday, which follows Christmas day. The Street entertainers including singers, dancers and comedians, are an established feature of London's theatre life. As the cheaper seats in the pit and gallery at London theatre cannot be reserved, long lines of people waited outside in order to make sure of the best seats when the theatre opens its doors. The long hours of waiting made less tedious by the Street entertainers, who make a good living by taking collections from the people they entertain. For a big theatrical production, people wait outside the theatre for as long as 48 hours, and on these occasions the Street entertainers are warmly welcomed. 27 December 1937
