Just when it seemed that their meeting to try to settle the dispute over Kashmir had failed, the Indian and Pakistan leaders signed their peace pact. Death came to Mr Shastri after he attended a Soviet banquet to celebrate the success of the Summit meeting. President Ayub and Mr Kosygin helped carry his casket to the airplane in which the Indian Premier was flown home for tomorrow's funeral. 11 January 1966
