Nikolaas Tinbergen, lecturer in the Department of Zoology and Comparative Anathomy at Oxford. Born at the Hague in 1907. He studied at Leyden University. Served with the German Army on Eastern Front and was captured by the Russians. Went back to Leyden after the war but later came to Oxford. He is now a nturalised Briton living in Oxford with his wife and children. October 10th 1961
