Self-styled and aptly-named Sgt major at the London Zoo penguin pool is 'Stinker', a newcomer from Monte Video, a guest at the pool now that he has recovered from an injury to his foot. He was flown to England to have it treated in the Zoo sanitarium, but doesn't seem very appreciative of the hospitality extended to him. Used to a more placid atmosphere, the Cape penguins from southern Africa seem about to retreat in disorder. Stinker came originally from the Falkland Islands and the considered opinion of the Cape penguins is that he can't return there too soon. 6 May 1937
