When Mr Fred Davies, a catering manager from Canada paid a visit to his native England after an absence of 40 years, he did not come empty-handed. Returning to his hometown, Dartford, to stay with his sister Mrs Hutchins, his collection of good things to eat and drink included a side of bacon a yard and a half long, 67 fresh eggs and a bottle of Scotch whiskey. Friends and neighbours lent a ready hand in disposing of this off-the-ration bounty, but thre is still enough left for a reunion party before Mr Davies goes back to Canada.
