With the sailing of the P and O liner SS canton from Southampton today, came the return of the far East savings. Further 2 of the passengers, 23-year-old cousins Jean(left) and Anne(right), it was an exciting moment when the ship left the dock, for they were leaving this country from the first time. Jean is the younger daughter of Lord Davidson and lady Davidson, Tory MP for Hemel Hempstead. Anne is the only daughter of Mr JC Butterwick, former Eton housemaster, and of honourable Mrs Agnes Butterwick of beacons field. Lady Davidson and Mrs Butterwick are sisters and their 2 daughters visiting cousins in Karachi. The trip was arranged 2 years ago when Jean was in the ATF, and Anne was working in the foreign office. This is the first opportunity they have had of making the trip which says lady Davidson will be "extremely important from an educational point of view." 17 October 1947.
