An agricultural gang of women and children, cheaper to employ than men, organized by an independent gang-master, under whose supervision they executed agricultural piece-work for farmers in England in the 19th century. Seen here one of the children lies sick from overwork. An inquiry into this type of employment resulted in the "Agricultural Gangs Act" in 1867, forbidding the employment of children under eight years old.
