Aquatic Coral Snake (Micrurus surinamensis) is one of several species of venomous coral snakes found in the Amazon rainforest. This species prefers the proximity of slow moving forest streams. The bright colors are thought to warn predators of its venom (aposematic coloration). South of the United States the familiar adage "red touch yellow kills a fellow, red touch black venom lack" doesn't apply as many neotropical coral snakes, such as this one, has the red bands touching black.
