Cave Cricket (Ceuthophilus sp.) from Big Mouth Cave, Tennessee. Cave crickets often emerge from caves at night to feed on the surface and then hide in the cave by day. The organic input from cricket droppings (insect frass) can be important in some systems. The energetic input of the frass can actually constitute a significant amount of the total energy that enters the cave's food web.
