This Swiss Cottage, in Kilcommon, County Tipperary, Ireland, was designed in 1810 by the Regency architect John Nash and is one of the finest examples of "cottage orne" existing. "Cottage orne" refers to an asymmetrical, artificially rustic style of architecture. It was indulged in by wealthy gentry who wanted their homes to look closer to nature. This particular cottage was built for Richard Butler, 1st Earl of Glengall. After falling into neglect, it was fully restored in the late 1980's.
