The Plaza Hotel in New York City, located on 59th Street and Fifth Avenue. A French Renaissance chateau-style 19-story luxury hotel, it was designed by architect Henry Janeway Hardenbergh (1847 -1918) and built in 1907. It was the first hotel to be given formal New York City landmark status. In the foreground is the Pulitzer-funded fountain called 'Abundance,' by Karl Bitter, which depicts Pomona, the Roman goddess of orchards.
