Color enhanced scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of prostatic cancer cells. Prostate cancer is a slowly progressive adenocarcinoma of the prostate gland that affects an increasing proportion of males over 50. The disease may cause no direct symptoms but can be detected during diagnosis of bladder obstruction, hematuria or pyuria. It is commonly detected by digital rectal examination. Treatment is by surgery, radiation therapy and hormones. Magnification = x760 at 35mm.
