Color-enhanced scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of bacteria on chicken. Retail chicken flesh was left at room temperature for 2 days and then fixed and prepared for SEM. A wide variety of bacteria (and bad odor) developed on the surface of the flesh particles. They would not be fit for human consumption and could lead to food poisining.
