This is a transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of a zygote of Plasmodium sp., a malaria-causing parasite. The large nucleus is visible towards the centre of the zygote. In the cytoplasm are elongated mitochondria with some Golgi vesicles. The thin lines in the nucleus are the chromosomes undergoing condensation at the pachytene stage of meiosis.
