Saunder's Aeroplanes in hangar, East Cowes, 1914. S. E. Saunders were involved in the development of early amphibious aircraft. A collaboration between the boatyard and the Sopwith Aviation Company produced the Bat Boat, an aircraft with a consuta laminated hull that could operate from land or on water.
