Empress Alexandra Feodorovna of Russia (1872-1918), formerly Princess Alix of Hesse, married Tsar Nicholas II in 1894 shortly before his accession to the throne. She was murdered by Bolsheviks at Ekaterinburg on 17th July 1918. The caption reads 'Few people occupy a more interested position in the crisis than the Tsar's Consort, for she is not only a German herself, but is also the first cousin of our King, the sister-in-law of our late First Sea Lord, and the sister-in-law of the Kaiser's sailor brother, Admiral Prince Henry of Prussia, who is trying to destroy the Russian Navy...She and her daughters are taking an enthusiastic part in nursing the wounded'.
