In 1906, Russian marines stationed at the Suomenlinna (Sveaborg) Naval Base (Helsinki, Finland) revolted and government troops had to retake the fortress by heavy fighting. The mutiny was caused by social indifferences which later led to the Russian Revolution and the rise of communism. This postcard shows a group of sailors marking the revolt (and the subsequent execution of 19 sailors) with a placard which reads: 'Eternal Memory to our comrade soldiers killed in the fight for Freedom'
