Lieutenant Douglas Malcolm, the father of film critic and journalist Derek Malcolm, pictured in the Tatler at the time he was found not guilty for the killing of Count de Borch, Count de Borch, aka Anton Baumberg, a dubious character, womaniser and possibly a white slaver and spy for the Germans, who had seduced the lieutenant's wife, Dorothy. Despite originally vowing to horsewhip Borch beyond recognition, Malcolm had shot Borch and killed him. It was seen as a sensational crime of passion and Malcolm, a man in uniform and 'home from leave', had public sympathy and he was eventually acquitted.
