The medal presented by the Scottish Women's Hospitals Committee to those who served during WW1. The medal is in bronze and shows a kneeling woman drawing towards her a wounded man. She is trying to shield him from the grim figure of death, intent on dealing a fatal blow. On the reverse there is an embossed wreath and the letters N.U.W.S.S at the top and '1914' at the bottom. In the centre, 'Scottish Women's Hospitals'. The ribbon is in black, green and yellow tartan. It was awarded to those who had served two or more years in their units. The medal was designed by Hazel Ruthven Armour (1894-1985), a sculptor and medallist.
