WW2 - The exact moment war was declared in Britain as the clock of Big Ben above the Houses of Parliament in London ticked over to 11am on Sunday 3rd September 1939, as the deadline offered to Adolf Hitler's Germany to withdraw from Poland expired. With no reply forthcoming from the German Chancellor, war was duly declared.
